Materials and maintenance: the back cushion
Our back cushions are filled with 100% Dutch sheep's wool. Regular fluffing keeps them in top shape for years.

The back cushion: 100% Dutch sheep's wool
Back cushions, both fixed and comfort cushions, are filled with 100% Dutch sheep's wool. Because Dutch sheep's wool isn't soft enough for clothing, it's treated as a waste product: an estimated 1.5 million kilos a year go to landfill or the incinerator. [1]
For cushion filling, it's a fantastic alternative to synthetic materials. It's resilient, moisture-regulating, more sustainable, recyclable, and completely natural. Since colour doesn't matter for cushion filling, we deliberately choose coloured wool.

Maintenance: regular fluffing
The cushions should be fluffed regularly, preferably weekly, but once a month is already appreciated. This way they retain their shape, volume, and resilience.
Fluff the fixed back cushions by hand. By firmly hitting the cushions with a flat hand, the wool spreads evenly and you prevent it from sinking downward.

Major maintenance: step by step
Every two to three years, the cushions need major maintenance. Unscrew the two bolts at the bottom of the frame and lift out the back cushion. Release the velcro and slide the back frame and inner cushion out of the outer cover.
Open the zip in the inner cushion and remove the wool. Pull the wool apart, this restores volume and resilience. Divide the wool into three equal parts across the compartments and reassemble everything. Your cushions feel like new!
